In 2023, it will no longer be possible to share a Netflix account in the United States. This decision by the streaming platform follows a recent experiment carried out in South America, where an additional $2,99 is now requested per new account attached to a premium subscription.
According to Wall Street Journal, over 100 million Netflix subscribers actually share their passwords with loved ones. To avoid this, Netflix intends to set up a verification system by code sent by email, to be entered within 15 minutes of the connection request. However, in case of travel for example, it will be possible to warn the platform of its wish to connect from another IP address. This decision follows declining subscription figures this year and the failure of the new formula with advertising launched by Netflix.
This IP verification may pose some problems for VPN users who have fun changing their location to display the various catalogs of the VOD platform… or simply to surf in safety.
