Straight4 Studios has released an important statement regarding Project Motor Racing, its brand new sim racing title. The studio confirms it had to make a difficult decision: reduce the size of its team after a launch that did not meet expectations, neither those of the players, nor those that the team had set for itself.
A complicated situation for the studio
According to Straight4, this staff reduction comes after exploring all possible alternatives. The studio emphasizes that this decision does not call into question the talent or dedication of those affected. The developers being let go contributed passionately to the project, and the studio is committed to supporting them through this transition.
The statement also acknowledges that Project Motor Racing's release did not live up to expectations. Technical problems, systems deemed too lightweight, high community expectations… The game failed to convince at its launch.
Straight4 wants to regain the players' trust
Despite these difficulties, the studio affirms its continued full commitment to the game's future. Straight4 announces its intention to:
- strengthen physics of the title,
- improve several game systems,
- propose regular updates,
- and bring the experience closer to what players initially expected.
The message is clear : Project Motor Racing is not abandonedThe studio intends to continue its work and gradually rebuild the community's trust.
A call for patience and honesty from the players
Straight4 also thanked the players for their feedback, sometimes harsh, explaining that it is already guiding priority projects. The remaining internal team was praised for its resilience and willingness to continue despite the circumstances.
Finally, the studio sends a strong message to the employees leaving the adventure: recognition, respect and gratitude for their contribution to the creation of the game.
A still uncertain future
While Straight4 reaffirms its commitment, the situation remains undeniably delicate. A smaller team means a potentially slower development pace, and the success of future updates will largely depend on the studio's ability to address the shortcomings highlighted by the community.
For now, one thing is certain: Project Motor Racing enters a rebuilding phase, and its upcoming updates will be crucial for the future of the project.
