BeamNG.drive 0.23 has just been released, and the program, in order not to change, a changelog as long as the arm. To name just the big news, we find intelligent traffic that respects traffic lights, a completely renewed gridmap, PBR textures, and the arrival of a pot of sports yogurt.
The BeamNG.drive 0.23 update was overdue. Teased for several weeks, the update of almost 3 GB has been officially deployed since this morning and brings much more than what had been unveiled. We will only see the biggest points here.
Complete redesign of the gridmap
Some time ago, BeamNG called on the community to improve the Gridmap, its car testing environment. And there was no shortage of ideas. The developers deliver us a result that meets expectations. Complete, complex, immense (x4), the v2 gridmap is the map of all superlatives. It is divided into 11 different zones, each with a purpose and a theme (Offroad, Suspension, Handling, River, etc.). Each part is separated by flat areas to clearly delimit them.
The Pigeon, the 3-wheeled yogurt pot, returns remastered
The Ibishu Pigeon, that horrible, out of control 3-wheeled car, has been redesigned from scratch. Even if it remains a walking coffin, we must admit that it has a good face: fine textures, interior, engine, and even a 4-wheel version, the Pigeon becomes a city car “almost” usable on a daily basis. Better a Racing version named Wigeon, and powered by a 1.3L engine instead of the 550 cc, promises you flights at nearly 200 km / h. Remember that the "car" weighs only 500 kg all full facts.
PBR textures for a game based entirely on physics
Join had already announced it in a previous article, we can finally see it at work. BeamNG.drive is enriched with PBR textures, a physics-based rendering, allowing environments and objects to appear more realistic, especially from a lighting point of view. With that in mind, you'll be able to see updated textures across a diverse selection of assets. Here's a video showing how physics-based rendering makes a difference.
The traffic lights are finally respected
Once available as a mod, traffic now responds to signage, at least to traffic lights. At this time, not all cards are compatible, and only the US East Coast is fully functional. The police, if you activate it, will be happy to chase you if you pass a red light.
Oil in the engine
Finally, heat engines will benefit from an improved oil simulation in this version 0.23, including support for oil sumps and breakable radiators, causing oil leaks if one of them suffers from damage. damage. As a player, you will have to adhere to the minimum and maximum safety oil levels which must not be exceeded.
