The first day of Farmcon is over. We will come back to the various announcements that took place in a recap at the end of the event. Nevertheless, the seasons in FS 22 were at the center of the questions of the players on the Discord of Giants Software, which moreover published on their blog a long post to take stock.
In Farming Simulator 22 you have to prepare for the 4 seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. If you don't, you will see your crops wither. During Farmcon, the developers offered us a presentation video with Jos Kuijpers, gameplay developer at Giants Software.
Visual changes throughout the seasons
Since the last presentation, things have changed a bit. The shade of trees, grass and bushes is now more even. Environmental effects also give character to the season, such as rain, which will be more abundant in winter than in summer. The water also undergoes a modification, its opacity and its reflection evolved from the first FS 22 screens presented. You can see it on the screenshots below.
In autumn, the color scheme changes - the atmosphere becomes a little melancholy before everything is covered with a thick layer of snow when winter arrives. Map creators to choose to hide decorative elements according to the seasons. Who leaves their barbecue outside in the winter? Or his garden furniture? Modders can apply the equivalent of a season mask to show / hide these decorations.
Seasons mode on Farming Simulator 22: with or without?
Seasonal cycles and its constraints won't appeal to all gamers, and we already know Giants Software will leave it up to whether or not to enable it. It is only a question of cultures here. If you prefer to keep the possibility of sowing and harvesting whenever you want, you are free to do so.
The seasons of the game are divided into months. A year consists of twelve days, representing the 12 months. This means that each day in the game equals one month. Using the timescale control, it's up to you to decide how fast the days go by. A season can then go from half an hour to a long weekend (if you play in real time).
The calendar in front of you for sowing, harvesting, and selling
Like the " mod seasons ”by realismus modding, a sowing / harvesting schedule is in place to allow players to find their way around the tasks to be carried out. This is the main impact on the gameplay. If we take the new cultures, grapes and olives should be planted from March to June. The harvest season begins in September and lasts until the end of October. Sorghum, the third new crop of Farming Simulator 22, should be sown from April to May, for a harvest from August to September.
This calendar will also tell you when to sell your crops at the best price throughout the year. It may be beneficial to temporarily store your crops. Be careful, however, to keep enough food for your animals in winter.
Shall we make snowmen?
As you can imagine, the snow ends up covering the landscape and it will be necessary to partially clear the map. And obviously, Giants Software provides the right hardware for that.
As you can see there is always a bit of work to take care of the 3 winter days.
What about the Seasons of Realismus Modding?
Well it will still be possible to develop it according to Giants Software, who answered our question on Discord. Farming Simulator 22's cycle of seasons will not prevent Realismus Modding from integrating its own mod, although the work is partly chewed up since the game will already handle snow. The main interest for players will be the additions in terms of breeding.
The rest of the recap will be broadcast on video on our Youtube channel this WE.
