Setting up the AmbiBox software
- Open the software, make sure it is not already open or minimized.
- Power on your Ambilight system and connect the USB plug to your pc.
- Count the number of LEDs that you glue horizontally and vertically on your screen. Write it down.
Open your device manager, and find the "Ports (COM and LPT)" pane. If you have connected your USB cable correctly, you should see USB-SERIAL CH340 (COMX) - instead of the X you should have a number which will depend on the chosen USB port. If you reconnect your Ambilight to another port, the number will change and you will have to redo the change in Ambibox. Note the number which is in place X. For the example below, it is necessary to retain “COM9. "
Go back to the Ambibox software and click on "More setting"
Check that Order of colors is set to RGB, and in Number of zones indicate the total number of all the LED cells that you have pasted behind your screen. In my case, I have 80 cells. As soon as you modify the value of Number of zones, the software restarts automatically.
You must now click again on "More settings". In the “Device” tab, you must put “Adaligth”. The software will restart again, then click again on "More settings". In the "Port" pane you must put the number that we found in the device manager (in our case, it was "COM9"). You should change from "not connected" to "connected" status.
To have the Ambilight effect, you must set the mode to "[Software] Screen capture". And in the "The method of screen capture" pane, you must put "GDI FS Aero".
At this point, a small backup won't hurt, so click on “Save setting” at the bottom of your window. Then click on "Show areas of capture". If you have multiple monitors, go to "Move to monitor" and select the appropriate monitor. Then click on “Wizard capture zones”.
If you do not have LEDs at the corners of your monitor, due to welds for example, check the “No corners” box. In "number of zones horizontally", indicate the number of cells that you have horizontally. In my example, I have 28. In "number of zones vertically", indicate the number of cells you have vertically. In my example, I have 16.
For the "Zone direction" parameter, this is the direction in which you glued your LEDs: clockwise or counterclockwise. You can move and resize the areas manually: the goal is to have an area in front of each LED cell that is behind your screen. You will surely have to replace all the boxes manually so that box 1 corresponds to LED 1. This step is very important! Once, all your cells have been placed, click on Apply.
We turn on the leds on the next page!
