Available on consoles and Windows for nearly a year, Maneater has appeared in the Steam catalog since the end of May 2021. The opportunity to look at this unique game which combines action and RPG in an underwater environment, at the controls of the terrible bulldog shark. Tremble!
Discover ultimate power as the seas' greatest predator, a terrifying shark. Maneater is an open-world action RPG (SharkPG as the developers say) in which you play as a bulldog shark against a well-defined storyline. It all starts in the belly of your sea, which is being chased away by a group…. shark hunters. Once forcibly pulled from your mom by a naughty human, your desire for revenge is great… but you are small. And we will have to eat and progress in the vast open world in order to gain XP and maturity, before, you guessed it, returning to face the cruel fisherman.
Your adventure is punctuated by commentary (voice of Chris Parnell) that tells the story and anecdotes about aquatic life. It's pretty cool but quickly repetitive. The fights against the local fauna are lively and explosive. The backgrounds of the game, with a magnificent day / night cycle, are displayed by the Unreal Engine, master of lighting effects. Word of a diver, the rendering is remarkably faithful to reality, especially in a polluted environment.
Offered on Steam below 35 euros, Maneater should occupy you a good twenty / thirty hours. The level of difficulty is progressive but rarely blocks progress (sometimes you have to farm anyway at times).
