OpenAI launched this Tuesday, March 14 a new version of its ChatGPT robot, called GPT-4, which works with generative artificial intelligence. This latest version is able to understand text and images thanks to another start-up, Be My Eyes. Although less capable than humans in many real-life scenarios, GPT-4 performs as well as humans in many professional and academic settings. Microsoft has already integrated this new version of ChatGPT into its Bing search engine.
OpenAI is positioned as a leader in generative artificial intelligence (AI) with its programs producing texts or images. GPT-4 is a step towards the so-called "general" AI, endowed with human cognitive capacities. The model is able to reason and pass exams, but still lacks memory and does not learn continuously. Despite its capabilities, GPT-4 has similar limitations to previous models, OpenAI acknowledges. The use of ChatGPT has started a race for generative AI, with participation from Microsoft and Google, which have integrated automated creation tools into their online platforms and software.
