The most anticipated title of the year, Starfield, arrives this September 6 on Xbox and PC. If teasers, news, and other leaks have been making the headlines online in recent weeks, there is one subject that I have not seen mentioned, at least for PCs, the question of the platform: the game is available Day One on Microsoft's Gamepass, very widespread on Xbox, less so on PC.
So what are you going to play?
Starfield is not a game like the others. The creators, Bethesda, have shown us that they are capable of creating titles that keep gamers in suspense for hundreds of hours. We all remember Skyrim or Fallout. Games that can be completed in about thirty hours or drag on more than 300 … Pete Hines, director of publishing at Bethesda, has also declared at Gamescom 2023, to be at more than 150 hours on his part of Starfield.
On Univers-simu.com, we are used to games that panic the counters, it is enough to see our Steam customers display 4 figures in front of the number of hours of play for most episodes of Farming Simulator. And what makes us play so long? What makes us keep restarting the game? I put it in the bullseye! THE MODS!
Ok, but what about modding on Starfiled?
The subject of modding on Starfield has already been mentioned: YES the game will be compatible with mods. New planets, armaments, outfits, NPCs, quests? We don't know yet, but Nexus Mod has already spoken on the subject, indicating Starfield will use an updated version of the creation engine that powers Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, so modders are partially ready.
What about the Steam Workshop? The 3 previously mentioned titles support it. The probability that Starfield will be compatible is high. Therefore, we can assume that using a Gamepass version means not being able to fully use the game's mods compared to the Steam version.
Another question: spending several hundred hours on a game is not done in a few days. What will happen when Starfield drops from Microsoft's Gamepass catalog? [EDIT: many of you tell me that it will never happen, and you are absolutely right] Because yes, the titles, even the best, are often only passing through, and the catalog is regularly renewed. Again, owning a game in Steam version can be reassuring in the long run.
Finally to finish, and as a Steamdeck player, personally, the choice of the Steam version is simply necessary in order to take the title of Bethesda as well under my duvet as at the other end of the world. Especially since the developer has clearly announced full compatibility with the Valve platform.
[EDIT: preloads have started for Gamesplanet customers!]To support Univers-Simu.com, you can order Starfield PC on Gamesplanet (-14% with code SIMUSTAR)
It was necessary to say it very early and you did it, thank you.
I hope it will of course work on portable consoles for my part I have the Ally rog, after me as long as I can put the textures up and have beautiful light effects, that's the main thing, the rest of the graphics options I don't really care, I won't play below 40 FPS, fingers crossed
It's funny before having access to this article I have a window with a sponsored link which offers me a reduction for a Starfield steam key (and which then appears under the article). Isn't the only reason for this article to increase your income rather than to give honest advice to your readers? In which case it would show that you do not have great consideration for them (and for me who just read your article).
Yours.
We are indeed partners of Gamesplanet. And in the middle of Starfield's release week, it's obvious to promote it. The advice remains honest, with an EDIT at the end of the article. I am personally a big defender of the Steam platform and the Steamdeck, and I make no secret of it, neither in my articles nor during my streams/videos.
Bonjour.
Given the last comment in the article, I still have some apprehension.
To be able to play it, I hope that we will not have to go through remote play (steam link) but through the cpu/gpu of the steam deck itself to run the game.
Otherwise, very hyped for this game, unfortunately I have great expectations which I fear will not be met in the first months / years of the game
The game being developed by a first party studio, Starfield will not leave the gamepass. Just like sea of thieves, doom, forza horizon, flight simulator, halo etc…
Nothing to worry about
First the argument that starfield would not remain in the game pass catalog and totally false, it has been announced for a year and a half that starfield will be part of the game pass framework, that is to say products that remain , this is not a passing license.
Then most users do not use the modes present on Steam but directly on Nexus or other gateways, where there are 5 to 10 times more, so the second argument also falls into the water.
The installation of mods will be done through a small mod management application, as is the case for Skyrim.
And you will have the possibility to transfer or manually recover your saves or save files, using the PC version of starfield (and not the cloud version which corresponds to the console version).
Overall this article seems to want to influence people to buy on the Steam gateway, by advancing false, unverified, and entirely false arguments, which is a biased and questionable act from a moral point of view.
Yours.
Since Microsoft owns Bethesda, I will not only be passing through but permanent, I find that it lacks information for certain arguments.
