Train Sim World 2 makes surprise appearance 2 months after release

It is not without surprise that we have just learned of the arrival at the platform of Train Sim World 2, announced for August 6.

No one really saw it coming. It must be said that Dovetail is far from being a champion of communication and the outputs, whether DLC or games, are done without fanfare. It's a choice… Still, the announcement of TSW 2 has the effect of a bomb since the game should see the light of day in just 2 months.

Train Sim World, remember, is an evolution of Train Simulator - still active - especially visual. Dovetail's game indeed works thanks to Unreal Engine 4, and it shows. If Train Simulator had evolved over the years, (until being renamed Train Simulator 2020), Train Sim World 2 is on the other hand a new version. It is not aesthetic side that it will be necessary to look this time, since the developers have chosen not to switch to the recent Unreal Engine 5.

The evolution is done on the functionalities and on the proprietary SimuGraph physics engine. We learn for example that a logbook and especially a planner / designer of journeys will appear, in order to be more immersed in your role as train driver. High speed travel is also expected to make a comeback, and wheel physics, especially grip, have been greatly improved. The player will also have the possibility to personalize his train via a dedicated tool, called Livery Designer.

Regarding a possible multiplayer mode, Dovetail announces that this functionality is noted in the planning and that they are working on the characteristics of the latter (passenger mode, switchman, etc.).

New game, but no new DLC

Good news for those who have invested heavily in the many locomotive add-ons of the first Train Sim World, since they remain compatible with TSW 2. From the developers themselves, “Each player has their own choice of complementary modules, preferred region, period, energy (diesel or electricity), game mode (passengers, freight…). We make sure that you can continue to enjoy your collection in Train Sim World 2. ”

If the transfer of your DLC is free, you will, however, lose all your progress when switching from Train Sim World 2020 to Train Sim World 2.

Still no steam train

In TSW 2, the driver will be able to operate diesel or electric locos. Many players were waiting for the steam trains to arrive. The developers do not rule out this possibility but say that another update of SimuGraph will be necessary to manage the weight of the machines, the effects of particles, the power… and the team prefers to concentrate on the transport of passengers and freight for this year. Dovetail will also unveil, a week after the game's release, its schedule for the DLC 2020.
