We hadn't necessarily seen it coming at 100km that one. This August 22, Dovetail wanted to mark the occasion and make a place for itself in all the announcements related to the opening of Gamescom, by unveiling Train Sim World 4. New reference simulation for the railway? Not even !
Train Sim World 3 left part of the community with a sour taste. The obligation to buy this new version (but not the DLC… fortunately) was the main cause, associated with the real lack of new features. And this version 4 seems to repeat the same mistake, only 1 year later.
Some novelties
The new “Free Roam” mode gives you ultimate control over where locos and gear spawn wherever you want. Create your own path, complete your personal missions and if you wish, let the AI take over.
The new 'Photo Mode' lets you pause the action, position the camera and highlight your favorite locomotives and routes. Share your creations in a dedicated in-game gallery for the community to admire.
Train Sim World 4 introduces Austria with the Vorarlberg S-Bahn line. Take control of the bustling S-Bahn in Germany before crossing the border and venturing into the foothills of the Austrian Alps aboard the ÖBB EMU 4024 Talent.
And that's all ?
We're not going to lie to each other, after going through the updated website of Train Sim World and blog post announcing the arrival on September 26 of this 4th opus, we cannot say that the news on the novelties fuse. The training center? It's warmed up. Dynamic weather, same thing. And it is not the "2.0" that accompanies the editor of liveries or scenarios that will turn the franchise upside down. The few screenshots show trains that are still just as beautiful, but an identical HUD... In short... why this new opus? To get a few euros into the coffers? Without a doubt.
Moreover, the music "I just can't get enough" of the launch trailer is remarkably chosen!
And the prices are already scary. Whether you're a PS4, PS5, Xbox or PC player, it's €44.99 for the Standard version, €64.99 for the Deluxe, and €104.99 for the Ultimate. No kidding ! These last 2 editions integrating more locomotives and routes to travel.
