Even though the FS22 workers have been improved over the previous installment, many of us are still frustrated by their inability to make headlands in the contours of fields. This mod attempts to provide an answer by adding additional parameters to finally be able to work in fields that are not square or rectangular.
This mod is signed by Mogli, the author of famous VCA (Vehicle Control Addon). It already existed under FS17 with the name Auto-Tractor then with the name AI Vehicle Extension (AIVE) under FS19. These are the early stages of development of its FS22 port. The objective of the mod is to replace the basic workers with improved workers finally able to work on fields with non-straight contours and in constrained surroundings such as low walls, hedges, trees or fences.
How does it work?
Once the mod is installed and activated on your game, it will replace your basic workers by default. When you hire a worker with the “H” key, it will therefore automatically be an evolved worker who will take charge.
Before you can simply activate the worker, it is recommended to start the work yourself by aligning the vehicle and its tool and by covering the first few meters in the field. Then, it is essential to give the worker precise instructions by displaying the control screen by pressing the “ALT”+”H” keys.
By passing the mouse over each icon, you will have a description of the mode engaged. We encourage you to watch our video on the subject to find out all the details of how it works, but here are some explanations of the icons.
From left to right, numbered from 1 to 8:
1 | Allows you to check which worker is used. If the AIVE icon is highlighted, you are using the alternate worker. |
2 | Indicates in which direction to perform the circular turns. In general, prefer clockwise for harvesters with an unloading nozzle on their left to make it easier for tractors to come and unload them on their left without crushing the crops. |
3 | Selects the working method of the field. Circular, round trip, normal mode (as with basic workers). Note: the circular mode also works very well on square or rectangular fields. This is the most interesting mode because it will follow the outer contours of the field and work the angles well too. |
4 | Indicates after how many circular turns (headlands) the work will switch to row mode (round trip). |
5 | Selects the type of maneuver authorized in the corners or at the end of a row. In general, the image is quite explicit on the course that the vehicle will follow. |
6 | Automatic steering: you entrust the steering of the vehicle to the worker but you remain in control of the speed. |
7 | Raising or lowering implements. |
8 | Additional options (see the video for more details) |
For what use? What about courseplay?
If you play solo and know how to handle the raceplay, you will certainly not have much interest in trying this mod. It does not yet reach the capabilities of courseplay concerning work in the fields.
On the other hand, if you play multiplayer and given that the courseplay is not yet available in this mode, it may be interesting to try it. In any case, the results will be better than with the basic workers.
Second interest, the work of several workers in the same field. As you could see in the video, in large fields where you want to involve several vehicles, the mod is quite capable of getting by and giving good results (while waiting for the "multiple tools" mode of the courseplay).
A mod still under development
As usual, as much to warn you, the mod is still in the alpha stage and you are certainly likely to encounter strange behavior on your games. If that doesn't put you off and you still want to try it, it's already functional enough to give it a try. You can go to the page Project Github to follow its evolution or simply use our download link to get the latest version.
