The creator of this famous mod, Mogli, is starting to release development versions that are compatible with FS22. The objective of this mod is to improve the driving experience of vehicles by adding a whole series of parameters concerning the transmission, the engine, the hydraulics, the views in the cabin or the steering. It also offers a very easily usable GPS with some additional refinements.
This mod was already available on the modhub for FS19 and no doubt that it will be soon for FS22. Initially, it was aimed at players using the keyboard / mouse tandem and who wanted better progressiveness of the direction according to the speed (by trying to approach a driving experience similar to steering wheels or throttles). Subsequently, the mod very quickly evolved into the ultimate toolbox to customize the driving of vehicles according to one's preferences.
Simple and efficient GPS
Using the VCA's built-in GPS is so simple and intuitive that one still wonders why it wasn't included as standard in Farming Simulator 22.
When you enable the VCA mod on your game, all vehicles automatically get GPS. No need to go buy one from the dealer (as is the case with Wopster's Guidance Steering mod) to equip your vehicle.
Once in the field, point your tractor in the correct direction then press CTRL + Z (default key) to activate automatic guidance. The width of your tool will be automatically detected and if this is not the case, there is a keyboard shortcut to force detection (or manual entry). The ALT + Z combination will reset the guidance in order to choose another orientation. Finally, to refine the orientation and offset of your lane, you just need to use the left CTRL key + the directional arrows.
For those who would like to go even further, automatic guidance also incorporates additional refinements.
- Auto guidance every 90 ° : by activating this option, the GPS will offer you a lane perpendicular to the one you have just finished. Very practical for making headlands (as shown in our video at harvest time)
- Guidance to next line (left or right) : this option allows you to leave the GPS on when you arrive at the end of the field to guide the vehicle to its next row. It is therefore up to you to manage forward and reverse gear only, but above all not to touch the steering wheel. If by chance your tractor has a turning radius of an ocean liner, you can always set the VCA to skip lanes (via the snapleft / snapright parameter which you will find by pressing CTRL + C).
Better camera movements
If you play inside sight a lot, the VCA will allow you to rotate the sight according to the steering angle of your steering wheel. A function that Euro Truck Simulator enthusiasts know well. It will be the same for the outside view and even for the forward and reverse. If all of this makes you seasick, the mod creator has thought of everything with “glance” buttons that you can set on your controller or steering wheel. This will allow you to only turn your head when you want (by default the right SHIFT key and the directional keys).
Adjustable power steering
If you're a keyboard and mouse player, you might be interested in adaptive steering as it adjusts the angle and rate of steering feedback based on speed. Thus, the faster you go, the longer you will have to press the button to turn the steering wheel. This will save you from dashing down the side for just a short press of the key. Clearly, this avoids that feeling of all or nothing (ON/OFF) in the steering when driving on the keyboard.
Also take into account that your settings will be specific to each vehicle (they are saved in a folder in your game save) and that they override those in the game.
If you detect any issues with your steering wheel force feedback, try playing around with these settings or turning off force feedback in in-game options. As this is a mod that is still in development, it is possible that there are still bugs.
Engine, transmission and traction management
In this section (as a reminder, the settings are available by pressing CTRL + C) you can optimize the behavior of your engine as well as activate the mod "keep forward speed" to simulate a hand accelerator like on real tractors . If you have a joystick, you can assign its axis in the VCA button layouts to the +/- hand throttle item.
The rest will act on the level of traction control and traction and can get you out of trouble when you are loaded and on a hill for example. However, do not expect to have the same rendering as on Snowrunner, the game engine is simply not capable at this stage.
Details that make life easier
- Raise / lower the front and rear implements directly with a button. This will save you from having to juggle the “G” key to select tools. This adjustment is made via the configuration of the keyboard shortcuts
- Activate / Deactivate the front and rear tools directly using a button. Same principle as above.
- 3 programmed speeds in the cruise control. Keys 1,2 and 3 are used by the native cruise control in Farming Simulator. The VCA adds button 4 which on each press allows you to switch to the speed 10 km / h, 15 km / h and the maximum speed of the vehicle. Practical in a lot of situations (such as following a forage harvester, a harvester)
