It was during a counter discussion with Kevin that several questions arose. How long has the modhub been around? When did the first modcontest take place? Can we still find Farming Simulator 15 mods on the official modhub?
To find the answers to our questions, we called on the site service archive.org and its Wayback Machine to project us in 2008, date of the first snapshots taken on the Giants Software site. Farming-simulator.com only arrived in 2009. Already at the time, the major sections were present. We found the news of the game, the possibility of buying it (in physical medium), a forum, an FAQ…. but where is the modhub?
The latter did not yet exist. Giants Software made the link towards ls-mod.de, a site of Marcel Altmann which died out in 2016, for lack of having been able to renew itself, before creating its own modhub for FS 2013. As of 2013, the site looks like to the current one, with identical headings and organization. Arrived at the end of 2015, the transition was smooth and we find ourselves with the current site. It offers both the current version and the previous version mods.
Modcontest, since 2008
The surprise, during this journey in time, will have been this link located at the bottom of the home page of the 2008 site: ModContest Result! Yes, the modcontest has been around since the early hours of the game and it had nothing to envy to the current competition. In this top 20, we find in the top three a certain John Deere 6820, a Fliegl box carrier, or a Claas Lexion 460. It is interesting to note that the JD mods are the most numerous since the creation of Farming Simulator. It was not until 10 years later that the manufacturer agreed to officially integrate it.
