SnowRunner's Facebook page is starting to calm down as the game's release date draws near. Of the 40 vehicles announced, only about twenty have been unveiled. It is on the focus forum that we finally find the most information about the game from Saber Interactive. Let's recap to complete last december note.
Maps and regions
Three regions will be presented when the game launches: Alaska, Michigan, and Taymir, each made up of multiple maps (some of them will be four times the size of MudRunner's maps).
The maps will be connected by tunnels through which you can navigate without having to start a new game, but as a rule, in order to open such a tunnel you will have to complete a certain task.
Each region differs from the other in its music, background scenery, and some other features.
Trucks and tuning
At the time of release, 40 trucks were announced, inspired by classic Soviet, Russian and American models. Each car has a cabin and a speedometer, tachometer, etc. well developed. On a video, we see changes in paint, type of tires, but also the installation of "snorkels" on the exhaust, chains on the wheels. It is always a question of being able to modify the type of drive of the trucks and the differential lock. The damage system has been revised and improved to simulate more realistic damage (wheels, engine…).
Projects
New types of cargo, whose weight now affects physics and overall gameplay, are available, but the list below is still incomplete. You will be able to transport:
- concrete slabs
- iron beams
- wooden boxes
- wooden planks
- concrete nozzles
Along with the usual add-ons on vehicles, a whole new one will be added: a "seismic vibrator", which seems to add a whole new type of activity, namely oil exploration. For the tasks you complete you will receive a cash reward and also improve your “Driver Rating” (it's still unclear exactly what affects it). New shipments lead to new tasks, including the construction and restoration of bridges. There will be no NPCs in SnowRunner.
Graphics and physics
Saber Interactive has ported this new simulation to its own game engine: the Swarm Engine. It already propels the excellent World War Z (see this video). The graphics are greatly improved and the physics of terrain deformation for which the game is a reference is carefully preserved. The physics of the game have been significantly revised and more parameters come into play.
Winter maps will bring several new surfaces: snow, icy roads, and ice - each with their own physics of interacting with transportation. The viewing distance has been increased. The system requirements will therefore be slightly higher. If your PC can run MudRunner, you should be able to play SnowRunner as well.
Mods
Support for mods will be on release immediately. The team's goal is to add mod support to consoles after release.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer will support up to four players. The “Ghost Trucks” will no longer be in the game. Your friends' trucks will directly influence the world around you. There has not yet been an announcement for a cross-platform multiplayer mode.
Game release date and price
The game is slated for release in Spring 2020. It is slated for simultaneous release on PC, PS4, and XBox One. On PC, the game will be released on the Epic Games Store. The price of the game has not yet been announced.
