Who would have thought, by dint of seeing simulations on anything and everything, that we would have had a high-pressure cleaning game? The little English studio futurlab was obviously in the process and has just published his Powerwash Simulator, a title that we could discover on some Youtube channels in alpha version. The very successful Early Access version has just appeared on Steam.
When you ask Futurlab how the idea of such a game was born, the answer is quickly copied and pasted as this question keeps coming up: “We wanted to create an FPS, and as a small team (editor's note: 11 people), we needed a smart idea that could be new enough to capture the imagination without needing a lot of production effort. At the same time, one of the members had found it very therapeutic to watch videos on the reditt / r / powerwashingporn, so when I said, 'to keep costs down we could do a sniper rifle FPS, where you sit, or we could do a powerwasher' We jumped up and exclaimed POWERWASH SIMULATOR OMGGG !! The project was launched ! "
Mr Clean is a little player
At the start of the game, we find ourselves in a very ergonomic, pleasant, well-finished environment, and in French. If the subject of the game can give rise to a smile, it is clear that Powerwash Simulator is a refined title. And that first impression is the right one. Once in play, the first mission - because yes, everything is masterfully scripted - is to clean your response vehicle using the only cleaner available at the start.
The Unity engine, which powers the game and physics, manages the flow of water and particles wonderfully. As for the reflections on the paint once the van has been cleaned, they are sublime. The environment doesn't try to be photorealistic with its vivid colors and simple models, but the HDR rendering and a beautiful and precise shadow play gives, once again, an overall polished look.
We take pleasure in cleaning, going back and forth with the nozzle. Each piece to be "karcherized" is cut independently. On the tablet that serves as an interface, you can follow the list of parts and their washing status. Better still, pressing the Tab key allows you to highlight the cleanliness.
As you progress, you will be able to buy more efficient equipment: extension lance, cleaner with more pressure, specific detergents for each surface ... The entire Mr Clean panel is there and you will have to manage a minimum of expenses for progress.
Offered below 20 euros, Powerwash Simulator is a surprise as we would like to see more often. The concept is simple, no fuss, relaxing limit. It just lacks a little music to pass the long cleaning times once in play.
