Forspoken, the Square Enix title developed by Luminous Productions, to whom we owe the latest Final Fantasy episode, the XV, arrives this January 24 on PlayStation 5 and PC. Short summary with disembarkation.
Initially scheduled for May 24, 2022, but postponed twice, it is indeed this January 2 that the pc players and PS5 will be able to discover the lands of Athia, the open world that you will travel at the controls of a new character, Frey.
The Forspoken story in a nutshell
Here is what the first sheets of the game tell us:
In Forspoken, you play as Frey Holland, a young woman torn from her New York life and thrown into a fantastic and dangerous world called Athia. Frey finds herself endowed with magical power thanks to a bracelet, which she nicknames "Krav", and sets out on a quest to regain her former life.
During his journey, Frey discovers that the world of Athia was once prosperous and ruled by benevolent matriarchs called "Tanntas", until a terrible corrupting force, the Mist, turned everything into a hostile environment populated by monstrous creatures. The Tanntas have themselves been transformed into mad and evil witches.
Frey must then face enormous challenges to resist the Mist and find a way back. She must explore the vast kingdom of Athia, fight supernatural creatures, and confront the powerful Tanntas. She will also have to discover hidden secrets that will reveal something much deeper.
Players will be able to customize their arsenal of spells and use a skill system to navigate the open world fluidly through a magic-enhanced parkour system.
Luminous Engine: From Final Fantasy XV to Forspoken
The game features stunning graphics and advanced technology to bring the landscapes of Athia and the creatures that call it home to life. It is still the Luminous Engine, used for Final Fantasy XV, in an improved version, which is used to display grandiose sets.
The game will be playable only on PS5 and PC. For the latter, the hardware recommendations are simply huge. To play in 4K 60fps, it is necessary to have an Intel i7-12700K processor or an AMD Ryzen 5 5800X, an Nvidia RTX 4080 graphics card and 32 GB of RAM, and to install 150 GB of data . A configuration much more expensive than a PlayStation 5.
Players using the Sony console can, since early December, get their hands on the first movements of Frey thanks to a demo version of about thirty GB. To get Forspoken on PC, you will have to go through Steam. You will find 2 versions: a Standard, and a Deluxe which contains the prequel "Forspoken: In Tanta We Trust" (due out in summer 2023), the soundtrack and an artbook.
