Farming Simulator 19 test: vehicles, at this level it's art

At each exit, the players are waiting for that. It has become the hallmark of the Giants Software title. Farming Simulator 19 is no exception to the rule and meets the demand of many farmers by including the John Deere brand in the dealer's catalog. Verdict?

It is impossible to talk about Farming Simulator without talking about the vehicles in the game. Today, the title published by Focus Home Interactive is THE reference in the field of agricultural simulations with regard to machinery. And it is not the thousands of additional mods allowing to add the oldest machines as the most recent that will contradict us. This year, the judicious choice fell on the John Deere brand. It must be said that the gaming community has been asking for it since the beginnings in 2008. But was it not ultimately just a whim? Most of the American manufacturer's gear was already available in mods.

No, because it must be admitted that the vehicles integrated directly by the development team are better modeled and faithful to real models, Giants working directly with the firms. It's not just general modeling, it's also cabin interiors and especially the sound, and Giants Software hits hard once again with FS 19! The engines of a Deutz Fahr Serie 9 are a model of realism that only sound engineers can reproduce.

Talking to you about all the material available in the game is impossible because more than 300 vehicles are already present, and Giants is already announcing thearrival of 3 official mods per day for this first week of launch! As for the modders, most of them are already working on the conversion of Farming Simulator 17 vehicles in order to adapt them to the specificities of the 19. (see the article "mods" in the file)

And precisely, what specificities? Let's talk about it. In fact, FS 17 was already very successful and modders are having a blast by integrating more and more functions. In the end, only the “plastic” aspect of the models overshadowed the picture. It is now ancient history and the revision of the Giants Engine makes it possible to create metallic textures with stunning rendering and transparency of headlight and rotating beacon optics that borders on perfection.

We're talking about John Deere, but the others?

Moreover, John Deere is not so well represented. The manufacturer has a wide range of machines and tools that are not (yet) in the list of the Farming Simulator 19 dealer. The very recent Serie 9000 forage harvester is also stolen the spotlight by the Big X Krone 1180, based on an identical Liebherr engine. As for the tractors, the 9R are absent subscribers, the 8R of 400 CV being the largest model of the firm. At Fendt, it is the 1050 Vario, so popular in the field, that arrives. These are good companions for your imposing construction sites.

Finally, there is something for everyone, whether via the original materials, the official modhub or the multiple mod download platforms.

Here is a playlist showing you some available gear:

But then what changes?

The big news is when you buy the vehicle. Several tabs are available: on one side the “engine” equipment, and on the other the trailed / mounted tools. The tractors have been separated into 3 categories: small, medium and large. When purchasing, you can now view your machine and these options in real time as you modify them (tires, loader, weight, color, etc.). The new interface is a model of ergonomics.

In-game, a change in the conduct should also be noted: the wheels no longer return to the central position by themselves, adding an even greater degree of realism to the previous component. Finally, and we hope this will be fixed soon, vehicle physics is a big step backwards from FS 17. Just like the horse, vehicles seem to completely forget the laws of physics. Gravity is not respected, and it is not uncommon to see machines of several tons do a good in the air when they hit a sidewalk.

Giants Software does not hide it. Physics is a very complex element to understand when handling very heavy objects. In the game, it is not uncommon to see sets weighing more than 40 tonnes on the scale. And Farming Simulator is not Spintire MudRunner and its Havok engine, highly evolved for realistic behaviors. A point to improve therefore, via future updates.
