On January 16, 2023, the game WW2 Rebuilder ended up in Steam's catalog in full version. This is a reconstruction simulator of European cities after the destruction caused during the Second World War. The game was developed by a studio in Wroclaw, Poland – Madnetic Games – and published by PlayWay.
First project from the Polish studio
For Madnetic Games, WW2 Rebuilder is the first game to have a full release. In 2022, a free demo and a prologue were published for this project. These were very well received, to date WW2 Rebuilder: Germany Prologue has an incredible 87,27% positive reviews.
This is not a classic simulator
As many critics note, the idea is unusual. Here is a game about war, in which we do not grab a gun, but a hammer, and instead of destroying, we create. The player evolves immediately after the conflict, when most of the old continent was destroyed. In the full version, you travel between Great Britain, France and West Germany. A different character is embodied in each country.
The cards you will find in the game:
- a tutorial on a farm in Bibury
- Gilbert train station
- Necropolis station in London
- London (part of the city)
- RAF Lympne military airfield
- Belfast Dockyard (where the Titanic departed)
- Essen arms factory
- Hamburg (the area around St. Nicholas Church)
- the coast at Dunkirk
- and an empty map to test the free build mode
Future updates announced by the studio will include two additional maps: Ludendorff and Normandy. The game is a reconstruction simulator, but the studio decided that storytelling was also important – so you'll experience many civilian stories through letters, posters, tickets, notes scattered on maps, but also through visual flashbacks or cutscenes.
Gameplay
Players can discover the story behind the ruins. Take a hammer or a trowel, drive a bulldozer, clean the area and rebuild the place by placing different decorations. It's a clever mix of history and construction simulator. In any case, after 3 hours spent on the game in Twitch Stream, it was hard to stop.
