The REA mod has just appeared on the Modhub (for PC/MAC only) and aims to increase the realism of the behavior of your vehicles according to their tires. Now the coefficient of adhesion will be different depending on the category of the tire, its width and its type (single tire, twin or caterpillar).
The modder 900Hasse has just made available on the modhub the first mod of a long series intended to improve the realism of your driving experience by taking into account the physical constraints of your environment and the equipment of your vehicle. The first mod to be available through the official modhub is the one that modifies the adhesion (the coefficient of friction) of the vehicle according to its tires or tracks.
The importance of tire choice
In the base game, the grip coefficient is almost identical between the tires and is not different between most vehicles. The modder also cites the example of the Manitou MC18 (a forklift) which has the same grip as a tractor. With the exception of trucks which still behave relatively badly (even with patch 1.3) and can get stuck even on asphalt despite their more than 500hp, you probably came to the same conclusion:
what's the use of having an impressive quantity of tires for such a ridiculous difference once in the fields?
Now with the Rea Wheels mod, the behavior of the vehicle will be directly impacted by:
- The type of tire: Road (municipal), Mud or Off-road (most agricultural tires), Tracks
- The width of the tire as well as the length of the contact patch
- Riding: single or twin wheel, caterpillar
- The total weight
- The type of coating
The mod works automatically for all your vehicles including on dedicated servers.
To go even further in realism
This is the first mod officially available on the modhub, but you should know that 900Hasse is working on improving realism for a whole series of subjects. So, if you want to push the experience even further, you can find the following add-on mods:
- FS22_REAcog : for managing the center of gravity as well as stability (you risk tipping over more easily on narrow wheels than on twin wheels).
- FS22_REAmplements : to take into account the necessary traction force of the tools depending on the terrain (example: sowing directly after harvesting is more power-demanding than sowing on prepared soil).
- FS22_READynamicDirt : allows the appearance of stagnant puddles anywhere on the ground is not flat or sloping. In case of rain the level will also rise and fall during calm and dry weather. Negative temperatures will also slow down your work in the fields because the ground will be harder.
You will no longer choose your tires by chance!
Footnotes
Already present in FS19, the REA mod is here divided into several independent mods allowing you to have a driving experience consistent with the desired level of difficulty. With only the REA Wheels you will already feel a nice difference in the fields. With all of the REA mods enabled, you'll find the extreme and punishing difficulty of FS19's REA (you may find yourself completely stuck and bogged down).
