If you are a Farming Simulator player and on top of that you have both feet in farming, then this news will make you laugh… probably a little yellow. The minister, Julien Denormandie, had announced it during the Inovagri fair in early September. The executive wanted to use the title of Giants Software to attract young people to careers in agriculture. The idea is not bad. With its 10M players around the world, FS 19 shows certain facets of the profession of breeder… without the constraints. But the game today is more of a technological showcase for manufacturers of agricultural machinery than a real simulation of life on the farm.
Worse, the Ministry of Agriculture does not even want to use the game as such, but to launch an esport competition that will take place from November 26 to December 6. We're hitting rock bottom. While the renewal of generations is a subject that is debated among trade unionists, esport Farming is undoubtedly the least relevant idea on the table. Why not seek to promote themes such as technology, or precision agriculture, since an extension available free of charge helps explain the issues?
If the goal is really to "Talk about agriculture to young people interested in the game but who do not know agriculture and talk about agriculture positively to make people want and create vocations", why not just promote… the game? After all Giants Software has always sought to seduce the youngest but also, and more simply, the greatest number by offering a relatively simplified game, with a balance between difficulty / realism wisely measured.
Remember, in October 2018, when FS 19 was unveiled at Paris Games Week. The city-dweller was already ... struggling a little ... so with an esport event ... we're just waiting to see.
