Released 2 years ago, Firefighting simulator The Squad is among the list of good students in video games. The developers, Chronos Unterhaltungssoftware, remained active for the first 3 months of the game's life, fixing all the early issues. Playable at 4, and offering long hours of play, Firefighting Simulator, offered at a fairly low price (and often on sale below 20€), is a safe bet. And even though the developers have been inactive for more than a year, they returned to the charge last August with an update titled Mission Update #1.
The title of this update is also badly chosen. Because it goes well beyond a simple addition of 2 missions. In reality, it is a system of random generation of interventions that arrives ! It allows players to play… endlessly, and with an increased level of difficulty, using a mission generation seed (similar to the world generation seeds on Minecraft). Firefighting Simulator The Squad is not a difficult game. Especially if you're playing multiplayer with friends. But this "Mission Update #1" brings new parameters for the "Challenge" mode. They make it possible to hide the objective indicators, the indicators of victims, or even to curb the actions of the AI. That raises the challenge a bit.
The future lies with PlayStation and Xbox
It looks like Firefighting Simulator is off again for several rounds. Because since August, the game has undergone a "Mission Update" type update each month (5 updates in total), or 10 new missions created from scratch by the developers. The game engine, in addition to the traditional corrections of bugs reported by the community, has also evolved, switching to the latest versions of Unreal Engine 4 and supporting technology nVidia DLSS.
In short, this new start on an ultra-stable and complete version only boded well. And bingo, now the publisher Astragon told us in early November that Firefighting Simulator The Squad was going to end its retirement on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The release is scheduled for December 6. A good Christmas gift that remains at a very acceptable price, under the $30 mark.
