It was short but intense. For almost half an hour, Ken Burgess, QA Lead, and Stefan Maurus, Gameplay Developer, walked through the first plots of the Elmcreek map to show us the first technical elements that make up Farming Simulator 22.
The two members of Giants Software therefore met in a wheat field to unveil the first innovations in crops. We start with a wind effect which gives a more realistic look. Here you could see the wheat swaying. The ripple effect is particularly light but successful. Then it was obviously time to harvest. It was with a new New Holland hospital that the staff showed us the new particles which are ejected from the rear of the thresher, while the floating cut followed the slope of the ground. They are now in 3D and not displayed in 2D on a map (UVScroll). Here again the rendering is quite seductive. Especially since the particles and the stubble remain on the ground. Which brings us to a new category of tool: stubble cultivators, which will be differentiated from growers, unlike FS 19.
After the harvest?
When the harvest was finished, the threshing machine was emptied into a new Rudolph brand trailer, towed by an old (but brand new) John Deere 7810 fitted with Continental tires, also a new license. The recovered wheat will then be transported to the mill, in order to show the functioning of the production chains. Still in development, we could see here that it was approaching the mod Global Company, present on FS 19, in its operation. Namely input and output elements. The player will be able to choose which type of exit elsewhere. In the case of the mill, store the flour, palletize it, or sell it. We were also able to see what the bakery was asking for to make the pies. He needs fruit (in the video, strawberries), which are also a possible new production, in greenhouses.
Breeding revisited ... slightly
To conclude the Farming Simulator 22 gameplay video, Ken and Stefan switched to Claas equipment, parked in front of a magnificent barn with windbreak nets and Lely milking robot, in which was parked a Kuhn SPW Intense mixer. You were warned of the arrival of this material. We weren't lying to you. Obviously, the Manure System will not be present. The cows on the other hand are very different, with animations finally worthy of the name and differentiated breeds. The Claas Xerion Saddle Trac was getting ready to spread slurry, which the developers set out to do before our eyes to show a new feature for fertilization: the double dose. It will be possible to activate it in order to “spit out” twice as much slurry and avoid a second pass.
So much to say!
We noted so much information while chatting with the developers that it would be best to get together live on Saturday night on our Youtube channel. And I promise, we'll tell you EVERYTHING. In the meantime, here are the 3 official videos from Giants Software, for this 2nd day of Farmcon.
