Le MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR, its 32 GB of RAM, its Intel core i7 and its nVidia RTX 2070 super, is a high-end gaming laptop, at least when purchased in early 2020, and equipped with powerful components to offer uncompromising use, whether whether at play or at work.
Approach
So why test it now, in 2023? Because this powerful PC, which has been part of my daily life for 3 years, has never touched the ground until now. With a view to offering you gaming/pro laptop tests, this MSI GE75 Raider will serve as a base, as a standard, because yes, even 3 years after its release, it still dares to stand up to mid-range gaming configurations. . And for good reason, here is what he has in his bowels:
CPU: The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is equipped with a 7th generation Intel Core i10750-10H processor. It is a powerful processor with 6 physical cores and 12 threads, with a base frequency of 2,6 GHz and a turbo boost frequency of up to 5 GHz. A processing speed that is particularly useful for resource-intensive tasks such as video games and content creation.
GPU: The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card Super. This was a top-of-the-line graphics card for its time and never showed signs of weakness, even when CyberPunk 2077 arrived. It is accompanied by 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory. The graphics card is based on the NVIDIA Turing architecture, which allows the use of ray tracing and enhanced AI (DLSS).
Also, this graphics card offers improved performance for content creation applications, such as video and image editing, thanks to the presence of Tensor cores.
Storage : The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is an example of scalability. The 1 TB SSD (Western Digital) originally installed can be accompanied by a 2nd NVMe SSD and even a 3rd disk in 2,5″ format on the remaining SATA slot. It is rare on current laptops to have so many possibilities for the evolution of storage. This is really a strong point on this model.
Screen : An exceptional panel to spoil nothing for the gaming experience. are excellent, even before calibration by the probe. This edition of the GE17,3 is equipped with a 75 Hz panel with a matte finish, perfectly usable outdoors on your terrace in the middle of summer (yes, it's been experienced).
Design and construction: The laptop's design is sleek with a touch of aggression, with matte black finishes and a glowing red MSI logo on the lid. The housing is made of metal and plastic and is very robust. The display hinges have not shown a sign of weakness in 3 years of use. The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is nevertheless to be put in the category of TRANSportables because it is quite heavy, like most PC Gamers, with a weight of 2,6 kg on the scale.
Battery and consumption: The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is equipped with a 6-cell Li-ion battery with a capacity of 65 Wh. According to the manufacturer's specifications, the battery life is approximately 5 hours of normal use. And like all other manufacturers, MSI is a joker. In standard use, even in simple web browsing, with the “Battery saving” profile, it is difficult to reach 2 hours before grabbing the charger. A criterion of choice which is not one anyway, since the category of “gamer” laptops is looking for performance more than autonomy. Note that after 3 years of good and loyal service, the battery of our MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is still at 75% of its capacity when it is connected almost permanently.
Consumption at rest is around 80 W. We go to 100 W with the activation of an external screen. Bench on Cyberpunk 2077, the MSI tops out at 233 W. The power supply is capable of delivering 280, we are wide.
On the thermal release side, we are in the average of gaming laptops and it breaks down hard when a component is overstressed. There is a Silence mod, which literally stops the fans from spinning at high RPM. The MSI then becomes inaudible, with internal components that greatly exceed 90°C. However, the performances remain correct and the PC does not excessively lower its operating frequencies to compensate for this lack of heat dissipation.
In Balanced mode (or even worse with Turbo mode), the laptop can act as a hair dryer. It's noisy, it blows very hard, but it's devilishly effective! With headphones on, it's ok, but otherwise it's quickly unpleasant, with an average of 43 dB (46 dB in Turbo mode) at 60 cm in front of the laptop.
Connectivity: The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR is equipped with a wide range of connectivity ports, including three USB-A ports, one USB-C port, one HDMI port, one Ethernet port, one combo audio port, one microphone port and an SD card reader. It is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. All that's missing is a Thunderbolt 4 port, unfortunately absent, to have the best in scalability, since it would have been possible to add an external graphics card to it... and make it go away for 3-4 more years.
In short, bought during a promotion at 2000€ all round (more often displayed at 3000…), the MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR was a wise choice. In 2023, his future is still not in jeopardy, and he allows himself to launch Hogwarts Legacy and high graphics mode in QHD resolution. The least I can say is that this laptop will be difficult to replace, at least in this price range.
Reference benchmark
Here are the benchmarks that will be offered during future tests. The MSI GE75 Raider 10SFS-010XFR will therefore serve as a reference for future laptop PC tests. The test protocol is almost standard, with one exception: the use of professional software. It is therefore apps like 3DSMAX, Adobe Premiere, or Adobe After Effects that will have their say.
Autodesk 3dsmax 22 – Navigation Viewport 4K 5M polygons (average FPS) | 70 |

Some details on these benches
For 3DSMAX, I display a CAD of 5M polygons and I measure the performance on a predefined camera animation (in order to have the same anim on future tests). For renderings using Arnold, this is the same scene in CPU rendering and then in GPU rendering. The gain is obvious.
For Adobe Premiere Pro, this is a classic edit, that can be found in the daily life of youtubers. A 30 minute sequence with some effects, transitions. Not all of them are accelerated by the GPU, which explains why the gain is not multiplied by 2 or more. Adobe After Effects leverages CPU + GPU when exporting. The exported scene is none other than the Youtube video intro credits.
The synthetic bench Cinebench R23 shows the expected gain on applications fully exploiting multicore.
In order to offer tests on demanding games, I deliberately chose at least Cyberpunk 2077 and Flight Simulator for their support for nVidia's DLSS 3. We can see that the recent patch of CP 2077 integrating the path tracing literally knocks the MSI down. However, without this technology, it keeps its head up and displays its 50 fps without flinching in Ultra.
Red Dead Redemption 2 in Ultra and QHD resolution remains playable (44 fps), but refuses to launch in this configuration with the DLSS activated (pure and simple crash).
So. The foundations are laid. It only remains to wait for the first guinea pig that will come to rub shoulders with this MSI GE75 Raider. Spoiler: this will be the most powerful laptop in the world (as of this writing)
Happy owner of the same configuration and taking care of my laptop, unfortunately I cannot say the same thing as you regarding the hinges.
3 months ago now (the laptop was 2 years and 6 months old), when closing the screen normally, I had the unpleasant mishap of seeing my left hinge give way.
Since then I have taken the step of seeing with MSI if they could take the amount of the repair as an extra guarantee, but of course this was a refusal. By searching a little on the internet I discovered that this is a weak point of this laptop. Many users report having experienced the same problem.
Too bad because otherwise this laptop is of good quality. but the case plastics are not really up to par with the rest of the machine.
