Valve's latest announcement is generating excitement among users of the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro VR headsets. With the Steam Link app, Valve is making wireless VR gaming even easier directly from Steam. While Air Link and Virtual Desktop have proven successful, Steam Link presents a third option, meeting the needs of users who have encountered problems with existing methods.
To access this new VR gaming experience, users must install the free Steam Link application on their Meta Quest 2, 3 or Pro headset, available on the official store. Additionally, having Steam and SteamVR installed on a Windows 10 PC is essential. However, simply connecting both apps on the same local network is not enough for optimal gameplay.
Valve highlights the need for 5GHz Wi-Fi for the headset and a wired connection between the PC and router. The PC, responsible for the processing, requires decent specs, with a minimum NVIDIA 970 graphics card and a recommendation of RTX 2070 with at least 16 GB of RAM. Valve suggests that Wi-Fi 6 or 6E can further improve the experience.
