Review of the Video Game Market in France: Year 2023
A Year of Exceptional Growth
In a post-Covid context marked by high inflation, the French video game market is showing impressive growth of nearly 10%, reaching a historic peak at 6,1 billion euros in 2023. This performance confirms France as the one of the most dynamic markets in Europe.
Ecosystem Performance
The Console Ecosystem: Engine of Growth
With an increase of 24,1%, the console ecosystem particularly stands out in 2023, driven by console sales and positive momentum in software.
The Mobile and PC Gaming Ecosystem: Complementary Growth
The mobile market recorded growth to reach 1,483 billion euros, while the PC Gaming ecosystem, although slightly down, stood at 1,432 billion euros.
Hardware and Accessories Support
Sustained Demand
Hardware recorded a significant increase of 16%, reaching 1,7 billion euros, with sustained demand for high-quality technological equipment. Sales of accessories follow this trend with an increase of 20%.
Software Performance
A Continued Ascent
PC and console game sales showed positive growth of 6% and 7% respectively, notably thanks to sales of complete dematerialized games. By aggregating all software sales, the turnover reached a historic record of 3,7 billion euros.
An exceptional year to be interpreted with caution
The 2023 results, although remarkable, should be interpreted with caution, being strongly influenced by the years of the pandemic. They largely reflect adjustments to exceptional past situations. Despite this record performance, the situation remains difficult for many production and publishing structures, both nationally and internationally.
